In general terms, holding a small stake in a company is worth sod all, as you have no power or control.

This all seems primarily a chance for both sides to test the water (and for him to get an 'inside' look at how we're run.

Also to have a more formal link to his skills and experience.

I'm not sure how a change of ownership would be transformative in the way that some people are suggesting however.
