I don't get why things like football matches would be cancelled?

The protocol just says a day of national mourning on the day of the funeral doesn't it?

Why are people saying everything will be cancelled for a prolonged period? I can see why maybe sporting events tomorrow could be cancelled but beyond that don;t really see why they wouldn't just have minutes silence as usual?

Its very sad and I get that its a huge end of an era for our nation. I am also a huge fan of the queen (i suspect more so than some on here) and I will feel quite upset if/when the worst happens. But I also don't really get why all the news outlets are cancelling any other news or the tv stations cancelling all their normal programmes when all they are going to be able to report is that she's ill or (once it happens) that she has recovered or passed away.
