It’s not bad luck if you keep f**king up the same way. “Inferior” sides achieve success against us by defending deep and simply waiting for a gift, which we almost invariably provide.

The reality is we’re not that good anymore. The squad has gone a long way backwards - as evidenced by the fact that we’re clamouring to see more of Onel and Hugill - two bit part players in past seasons, previously deemed not good enough. Rashica and (just going to call what I see) Pukki clearly want out, Sarge is useless, Kenny is a regular and still offers little, Hanley/Gibson are accident prone as ever. I could go on. Problems everywhere. This is not a promotion squad - the only hope is Nunez/Sara/Hayden revolutionise things.

Ultimately, it all still comes down to spending 60m last summer and not obtaining one player that is, it now turns out, even good enough for the championship. And possibly pinning our hopes Smith.
