Finding it hard to see what the actual issue is here - unless you're thinking of supporters getting fringe player's numbers and names printed on the back of new shirts? In which case I'd say it's a valuable life lesson in the fickleness of football.

Surely, if transfers aren't nailed on/confirmed players would be able to stick with the numbers they had last year (if that's what they want)?

Changing their numbers to a random reserve team one and then a move falling through would just be a noticeable, visible reminder that they don't want to be here/or we didn't want them.

Just my view, but sometimes I think this stuff can get taken much too seriously by fans.
