If lots of people were going to take that £400 and go way-hey! I'm spending that on extra extra heating /leaving all the lights on etc.?

Is energy (gas, leccy) really a supply and demand sort of a thing - once things have already trebled, you'd have thought people would have already cut back as best they can.

Alternatively, if you reckon the companies are keeping their prices inflated (all-together) then the marketplace for that is beggared and they could get nobbled for price fixing.

Conversely, I agree that there's questions to be asked about the (perhaps spurious) divisions between the retail energy suppliers and their wholesale arms (which seem to be making money hand over fist).
