because it's priced in euros and the exchange rate is different

it's perfectly possible to release a uk shopping trolley with a one eur coin (€) (any country you name it, it doesn't matter, german euros work as well as Irish, Belgian etc) but you can't release a european shopping trolley with a pound coin it just doesn't work like that. this is because pounds are worth more than euros, always have been since euros were invented. fact. that's why their petrol is cheaper.
