had we signed well we would have been up against it. But i agree entirely that we either needed to change the system in the champ so we were ready when we came up or if sticking with 4-2-3-1 we needed to adequately replace Emi and really sort the "2" in front of the defence with two decent holding midfielders. I think that would have worked and got more out of our players.

For me the failure to get in/play with a proper defensive midfielder (or two) is the biggest error. Its been done to death but it really is completely inexplicable. Surely anyone with any semblance of knowledge of football could see it was a glaring ommission.
