always struck me as usa date protocol makes more sense

if you are searching an archive for somethong it surely would be logical to do it by month than date as the parameters (365 days as opposed to 31 days max) and then bracket it in. like mortar/artillery fire, if you didn't know precisely where the exact target was. you'd hit it a lot quicker.
