I always found it pretty easy run as long as there were no roadworks

coming from Watford to Norwich at the busier time, generally. M25, M11, A11, all now pretty good roads. When I started going that route mid 90s, it was a pain beyond Cambridge but gradually improved.

Alterative would be A414, A1M,A505, M11, also much improved by the Baldock bypass

I gather Watford town centre can be a bit if a traffic nightmare now
