But, if they don't ask the ref / lino, how do they know? I.e. how do they know the on field decision to award the goal was because they knew Godfrey was offside but adjudged him not to be interfering, vs they thought he was interfering, but missed the offside?

To me, it's one that should have been given to the ref to look at on the monitor and reach his own view on whether BG was interfering with play.
