And he's actually not a bad passer of the ball. As you say though, decision making in tight situations is harder and more likely to lead to mistakes, which Smith is trying to avoid more than Farke did (the tight situations I mean). Farke's approach was that coming out on top of those tight situations was the way to break the lines and get moving forward.
