I've wondered about this a fair bit

Is the approach get players for the season we have coming up, or is the approach get players with potential to improve significantly over two or three seasons to deliver either an enhanced squad over that kind of timeframe or make significant profit on resale which can be ploughed back in to more of the same?

Rashica, Tzolis, Dimi were all "a bit of a coup" when we got them - certainly admired by bigger teams than us, who'd decided to let them be for the time being presumably to develop a bit more. Certainly Tzolis is not what we all hope he will become yet.

Us fans always want the timeframe to be success now, this season - but our strategy may have a different timeframe to that and the goal is overall improvement over a number of seasons.

At the minute I'd argue we are weaker than a few seasons ago so that may not quite be working out for us. But when this crop of players has grown up? Who can say.

This has been a bloody frustrating season, though. With all fit, or at worst 3/4 out injured/sick at a time, we might have given it a real go. As it stands realistically we're down already, and everyone knows it, though we remain tantalisingly in touch with safety and probably will until quite near the end of the season. It only takes a little run...but I don't think that little run is going to happen this term.
