I think that a half decent holding midfielder would actually make a lot of difference

Look at the performances with Normann and he isn't even a proper DCM. We would be a lot less porous and would free up some of the more creative players to create some chances.

It would as you say be a sticking plaster but it might be one that keeps us in touch just that bit longer and with the form of Burnley, Watford, Leeds and Brentford give us some hope in the latter part of the season. Even Newcastle are not certain to pick upjust by spending loads of cash.

Having been all positive, I still don't think we will spend any money, even if we sell Cantwell and thus are really not giving ourselves the best chance.
