It is a broken system but so many fans are so blinkered
that the only resolution to their clubs woes is to find a wealthy owner to ‘invest’. What they don’t seem to realise is that it isn’t ‘investment’. If a normal business invests it does so in a structured and responsible manner so that it can measure the success of the investment in making the company more profitable over a long term goal. This isn’t the case in PL football. If any of these owners pulled out the clubs would collapse because there’s nothing backing up the vast debt they’ve built up. Also clubs like Man City and Newcastle aren’t even being run as businesses or for football. They’re simply being used to promote nasty regimes and improve their images. I don’t blame fans for thinking it’s the only way forward because the whole media bubble is full of so-called pundits, the vast majority of whom either don’t understand the mess or don’t care. In the lower leagues there are campaigns being run from supporter bases to try to change things and bring back some financial levelling but it won’t happen without said pundits joining in. Why I’m so much against the PL (and have been since it’s inception) is that it was clear that the biggest loss is actual sporting competition. The days of Forest going through the leagues and winning the European Cup or Wimbledon from non-league to FA Cup winners has gone. Instead even with wealthy owners teams like Villa, Spurs, Arsenal, Wolves etc etc can’t compete! And for the lower end of the PL the reality is that you need your wealthy owner but your only ambition as a fan is to stay in the PL. For me that’s just crap. It’s not sport and it’s made the league dull at best. I don’t want to lack ambition and want my beloved NCFC in the highest league but in truth it’ll always be more entertaining in the lower leagues even if we had that magical investment to keep us annually in the bottom ten of the PL.
