Yeah I was just reading about similar, always loved the sea and ships and..

apparently they can do a 'crash manoveror' which can stop it in 14 minutes or less but, huge chance all cargo can be lost because they ship literally tilts 90 degrees or so toward the sea. Also, one of the only times a ships captain gives up control and hands over to the chief engineer. I suppose as the chief engineer knows how far it can be pushed without capsizing. Chief Engineer is kind of more important than the Captain at times I reckon.
