It was bizarre - stewards too busy facing away fans

to notice what was going on behind them for what seemed an age.
There seemed very little stewarding in front of the home stands from where he came.

On a similar theme I was surprised at the high police presence outside the ground, including mounted police. There's no history of trouble between Charlton and Norwich fans, is there?
