yeah, his development here has plateaued

and, for whatever reason this year has slipped back alarmingly.

A change of scene might make all the difference, or alternatively, highlight that he actually was made to look pretty good by the setup here.

Ultimately he doesn't look like he will make the difference in the second half of the season, or that he wants to stay longterm, so that all plays into the feeling of resignation at him leaving & a sense of wondering what might have been in a different set of circs
