Question: Could We Assume?

That Omicron will have a 'successor' and that, assuming it is discovered and consequently takes up another letter from the Greek alphabet that, if the pattern, rough as it is, continues, it will be even more transmissable than Omicron but a little less serious again?

Is that how viruses 'behave'? I am assuming that, once upon a time, the common cold was deadly.
