Whether Omicron is not much of a new threat at all, or a total game changer, nothing would have changed yet. It'll be several weeks before its widespread enough to actually start affecting hospitals, causing large numbers of people to get it.

Right now we have basically no clue at all. But it is possible that loads of massive parties in late December will turn out to have been a really really bad idea. (Or they may not.)
