Pretend wedding reception
You can only really pull this off every 2-3 years or so, and it requires the cooperation of a member of the opposite genital grouping, however if you book a church hall and dodgy local mobile bar and disco for an evening it will set you back, what, ?50 or so; then what you do is tell everyone you work with you've got married, service and reception are family only but big evening do which you're making friends only to make it fair. You will receive "wedding" presents worth far more than your ?50 outlay, and can split them with your co-conspirator afterwards.
