...because if you do it too often you will end up "killing off" the same person twice, plus you have to remember not to refer to your mother when you've cried in late last week because she dropped dead or something.
Much better is girlfriend trouble - say *she's* been bereaved/overdosed on twiglets/got a goldfish up her t**t/at the clap clinic and being the sensitive soul you are you feel obliged to lend your moral support.
Or, claim to have been "up all night shagging".
