Hopefully something more positive after a miserable sporting weekend
So, if you're feeling that you have a couple of quid spare and you want to donate to a good and meaningful charity, then Cancer Research UK is a decent one, right?
This is Mrs APB's JustGiving page: User Posted Link
She's just completed the challenge this weekend. Given that the pandemic has monopolised attention over the last couple of years, and that as a result other treatments have had to take a back burner, you'd assume that would be a bad time to get cancer, wouldn't you? Turns out that's correct.
Her twin sister, who lives in France, had a nasty and improperly diagnosed (kept being told it was Covid) case of Weil's disease last winter, which understandably laid her low for a while. At that time, her husband was diagnosed with two cancers and had to lose a kidney (to start with). He's 60. He's undergone lots of chemo and radiotherapy and some surgery, but is still going. In fact, I believe he went to a restaurant at the weekend.
My mother has also had to go through treatment for cancer (of the colon) in the last 18 months, while my sister has had her cancer treatment as well (she went through Hodgkin's when she was a girl as well as being in remission for cancer at the moment).
I guess what I'm saying is that we're likely to be affected by this disease and it will quite possibly mean the end for 1 in 3 of us, even though the treatments are becoming more and more effective. It's a dreadful indictment of our society that we have to use charities and donations to improve that state of affairs, while we're happy to spend millions allowing large companies to make huge profits, but that's a debate for another day.
If anyone has a couple of £ to donate, we'd be most grateful, but more importantly, maybe it might improve quality of life and care for those of us who end up suffering.
