What you mean by 'nowhere near justified'.

The Olympics are broadcast worldwide across counties which are barely vaccinated and in which mask wearing will save lives. There's a balance to strike here, in my opinion.

The algebra of whether you believe it to be justified vs whether the Japanese Committee feel it justified vs the audience feels it will be justified is all going to be different.

Totally understand your point. Just feel that there is a wider context at play here. Not wanting to get into an argument about it.
