Good piece on this in the FT today

A double-jabbed 80yo has the same mortality risk as an unvaccinated 50yo, roughly. And as more people get the vaccine it's entirely possible that one day most cases will be among the vaccinated (as there won't be many unvaccinated people).

It's the same as the seatbelt effect: the large majority of people who die in car crashes are wearing a seatbelt, but wearing seatbelts remains one of the most sensible things to do if you're in a car as it signifcantly cuts your risk of dying in a crash.

I'm double-jabbed but I'm still being careful, wearing my mask and so on. The risk of getting it, getting seriously ill or passing it on is substantially reduced but not zero.
