Whar? Anyway, first car, Metro City, no frills. Favourite Vauxhall VX220.

The Metro got me through part of university and teacher training and was known as the house car as gave too many lifts. Fuckers. Also the gearbox died one night on the way home from cricket and I drove about 9 (nine) miles in third gear, including traffic light starts. Not easy. Still, independence.

The Vauxhall was amazing. The heater was useless, it was cold and noisy and the solid aluminium gear knob would freeze your hands in winter. It had next to no luggage space and the roll-off targa roof leaked. On the plus side it looked the absolute bollocks and drove so well it could give you an erection. What a car.

The MX5 I had was almost as good, much more practical and all that but if I could drive either again just once it’d be the Vauxhall.
