the point isn't complicated

(a) certain relevant matters are nothing at all to do with science or scientists;
(b) if one is taking, as a government should, an overall view, then that means, almost inevitably, "refusing to follow" the views of one group or another (even if each group expressed a single view, which is rarely the case). Eg, medical scientists say x, economic (scientists?) say y, you do z.
