Yeah, I agree to an extent.

It?s a buyer?s market, and film and record companies, book publishers etc are driven by profits. Money makes the world go round and all that. You only have to look at the conveyor belt of crime novels that are endlessy churned out to emphasise your point.

However, I do believe that for every John Peel, there?s someone who will promote a band simply to make themselves seem cleverer and more diverse than the next bloke (or girl). It?s a competitive world, everyone wants to be better than everyone else.
