I reckon he just doesn't fit the Botham/Stokes archetype of an all-rounder we fetishize in this country.

Still plenty of people calling him a "part time twiddler". And moaning that he's not bailing out the side from another collapse coming in at 8.

If he'd been a selfish player his numbers would be much better, but he's not and the side and his teammates have been better for it.
