He managed to get nearly a whole squad of players playing to the very best of their ability for a couple of seasons, but it's very likely that they were going to regress to the mean sooner or later.

Probably wouldn't have been as bad as Sheff Utd are doing this season, but it's a similar scenario - with overperforming players eventually returning to their average level.
