Because they have no idea who parked the car and it is registered to you
Therefore you are responsible for payment of the fine irrespective of who actually parked the car wrongly. Parking companies don't care two hoots who was in the wrong as long as the fine is paid.
Whilst it is a pain, at least it is only a parking fine. The same situation would have occurred had a speeding camera been activated ( or worse). The assumption will always initially be that the registered owner was the driver at the time of the offence.
Next time I set a quiz I will ensure your prize is a set of legal textbooks - or a separate car for your son!
