Tech help svp

My macbook pro decided to wipe its entire OS and apparently I can get all my s**t back if i can connect my macbook to my iMac with a thunderbirds cable.

I have googled this s**t but as everything is usb c i cant get the right cable i need.

So my dear chums, what cable do i need to transfer my s**t from a 2014 macbookpro to a 8.1 iMac.

Thanks in advance, you may well save my life. I cannot function on a mobile phone ffs.
