It's almost as if the UK only had enough test reagents
For the typical / non-covid PCR testing levels and the ability to test far more samples required far more reagent which was, for some reason, in rather short supply...
It is also worth bearing in mind that the antigen tests are wrong up to 30% or the time. The antibody tests developed are currently flagging up a response to viruses other than covid which is somewhat unhelpful.
Scientists are working their butts off on this at the moment. They aren't able to magic the chemicals or the testing accuracy out of thin air.
