We weren't in the relegation zone in January last time, were we?

Surely that makes a difference in the assessment of risk (ours and potential signees) from being in that position to the current one of being 6 points or so adrift of safety.
What sort of players are we realistically able to get from this position? Why would a Prem quality player sign for a team odds on to go down and face the prospect of playing in a lower division at 2/3 the salary in just a few months? So the odds are that anyone we are actually able to sign is very unlikely to be of a quality that would make much difference to our survival chances.
