I do believe he may well have been writing this from an anti-semitic perspective as he does seem to be as thick as pigs**t, but to go as far as prosecution for anti-semitism requires the law to perform precisely the word substitution you have, and that is a little dangerous.

Certainly no defence here. Simply saying that it requires a lot of assumption to go from point A to point B. It is also entirely possible that he is so thick that he didn't even realise the connotation.
