Having a camera on a track down the side of the pitch has an issue or two.
Safety of players and officials, obviously enough. Reliance on tech functioning is also a risk - it’d have to be robust to cope with weather and impacts, hence the first point. Would it impair the view of the front rows of seats? I know the fans in attendance don’t count anymore, so possibly less of an issue.
It’s all drama for TV, in the final analysis. “Nobody wants to see a red card”, say the commentators - of course they do. “No-one wants to see a match decided by penalties” is another common lie.
