This is a good example of the 'them vs us' tribalism we've developed here

If someone who was walking somewhere did that to someone who got in their way, would their defining characteristic be that they were a 'walker'? Would it be 'walking news'?

Equally, if someone who had been driving a car did something similar, would it be 'driving news'? (And of course people in cars, vans and lorries etc cause many, many times as many injuries and deaths as people on bicycles do.)

But somehow everyone using a bicycle to get somewhere is immediately first and foremost 'a cyclist', and anything they do is somehow representative of all other people on bicycles. (And grist to the mill for people who for some reason want fewer people to use bicycles.)
