Canàries Down Under 1-1 Ipswich Down Under (1-3 on penalties)

Today we had our annual supporters group game, this year lined up with a sweltering heatwave in Brisbane.

Conditions were unfavourable with a hard pitch, hot, windy conditions and large dust clouds looming in the air from the nearby bush fires and the dust being blown east from the desert.

The game was quite even, they were a bit better in the middle of the park but we had them on the ropes at the back. Our goal came midway through the second half. A pinpoint corner floated to the penalty spot and a neat volley finish into the corner.

They scored with the last kick (head) of the game. A very late corner was awarded which was floated in and nodded over the line by the blues. The blues goalscorer was a ringer who was recruited by his blues friend from my Thursday night indoor footy team. With that in mind it should have been a 1-0 win to us probably. Next year we'll try and get Wessi as a ringer.

To decide the game, 3 pelanties were taken each. The first Ipswich pelanty was saved well by the keeper and ours was neatly placed in the bottom right corner. They buried the second and our second one was miss hit and saved easily. They scored the third and our third went straight down the middle but sadly just over the bar giving them the win for this year.

Next year we head to Melbourne!
