I'm guessing it was probably around 12 months. Plus as a free Agent he can get a decent deal as no transfer fee is involved.
It would have to make sense for both parties to do this.
Clearly the club thinks it's a good thing.
It's also possible the club had no decent loan offers meaning they would be on the hook for wages and bonuses.
