Great article on ACN about the away ticket/membership debate

I'm inclined to agree with Duncan.

I've watched this play out with interest and resisted comment over the last few days, mostly because I'm not a regular anymore, for geographical reasons, so it doesn't matter so much to me week to week, but it does and will have an impact from time to time.

However I do take some issue with some of the commentary around loyalty from people who are season ticket holders, and or away regulars who are concerned about the ability of people outside that group to get tickets.

The comment (somewhat in jest, I know) of the Liverpool fans in Beccles being able to get tickets over a regular attendee was a bit of a narrow view in my opinion.

What this new structure does is open up the availability for people like myself, who live overseas and are unable to attend every week for obvious reasons. Are we lessor supporters because we don't go to games regularly? Do we not deserve the right to apply for a ticket if we happen to be in the country? That's sort of how it comes across from a few of regular attendees.

You know I'd argue that we are just as loyal as Norfolk based fans, or as much as we can without physically being there. A lot of people don't realise the sacrifice that we often give to watch the games from the other side of the world.

For us to watch a game at 1am in the morning, be it on our computer or TV, or travelling into the city to meet at the pub, we give up a lot of time from our weekends. Either staying up until the early hours to watch the game, then sleeping half of Sunday and losing almost half your weekend away from family and then heading to work on Monday morning somewhat tired almost every week. The cost that we have to follow our team through our subscriptions, travel to the city, couple of beers and uber back home because the buses and trains don't run. It easily costs me $80AUD min to watch a game, plus being knackered for the whole of the next day and sometimes getting grief from the other half because she wants to go out and do something for the day and I'm half asleep. It's not just switching the TV on and off. It's costly both financially and physically and sometimes can push your relationships a bit. Lucky I've got a good one and she's pretty understanding.

I guess my rambling point is this. There's a lot more people out there that do everything they can to follow the club from afar and we should have as much right as anyone else to apply to attend the games if we can make it. Sure it then opens up potential for the "Liverpool fans in Beccles" but that's a small price to pay for a better chance for everyone to apply for a ticket.
