Coles corner was about the Bondses of Sheffield
a former independent department store that has long since been invaded by John Lewis same way as Bonds was. Hawley thought people would forget about Coleses shop and the corner bit where people used to arrange a meet up so he writ a song about it. Why haven't we got a romantic muso that can capture and weave together the history of our city? Huh?
Nice little show just finito on R4 with him btw. If you like. If you don't, it has still finished so you'll be alright.
