the point is that

a lot of those who appear to be more to the right of their thinking seem to be forgetting that an MP has already been murdered (by someone on the hard right, not that it's that relevant)

So all of the faux-horror "how awful, it could be serious next time!", as if this is the first time it's happened. comes across as pretty hollow at best, and wilfully ignorant at worst.
