Very sorry to hear it
When my Dad went there was a feeling of relief amongst the awfulness of it all - he was in the late stages of vascular dementia, which of the various ways to go is not one I'd recommend. The loss still hits, though, and it still affects me now some years on - I don't think you "get past" a major loss but you grow round it, if that makes sense. I hope things are as peaceful for you and yours as they can be.
