I was also at our semi at Villa Park....

Near me a few people had transistor radios to their ears (as we did then). It became obvious something serious had happened at Hillsborough and it was also apparent the Everton fans knew as well as they were relatively subdued in victory (City just didn't turn up on the day).

However it was only driving the relatively short distance home (by 1989 I was living in Worcestershire) with the car radio on that the full extent of the tragedy became known. I remember feeling in an odd sort of way it relatively ok we had lost, as it would be more appropriate that year if the final was Liverpool v Everton (as it subsequently became) rather than Liverpool v Norwich.

Obviously loads of ramifications later which are still going on, but an odd - and very sad - day.
