Don’t think it’s just their current earnings that matter.

MP’s have traditionally been largely skewed towards high socio-economic backgrounds, eg how wealthy their parents were whilst they grew up.

Although having said that, MPs are becoming better than most other top professions at allowing people from lower socio-economic backgrounds in. Eg Jon Ashworth (Labour shadow health secretary) etc
