a dreadful story

my neighbours next door but one, when i was about 12, they moved to chelmsford (after being there for 5-6 yrs, they were there before us). his mother used to babysit me and my brother on numerous occasions. she was really gentle and kind, and me and my brother still remember the time we were sent to bed (at 9pm, normal for that age?). anyway we watched half of Rollerball and we were so desperate to watch the second half of the film, within about 15-20 mins she came upstairs and told us we could come back downstairs and watch the end!

Our families were very close, and when they moved circa 86, we visited them a few times. i was older then and she was really strict with her son and daughter who were 6-8 yrs younger. and i mean really strict. so far as to say even here husband was embarrased.

anyway, at the time (1985) here son was in some kind of choir in chelmsford and he ended up singing on the song "happiness is easy". he did the solo bit too.

they stayed in touch until a few yrs later he died and we never heard from them after that. no explanation, nothing.
