I think I agree. I mean I can't say I scrutinised his essay that closely

but his assertions didn't appear to be libellous and they were certainly all sourced, although I can't be sure how selective he'd been in his citations.
I'd be surprised if they can build a real case and, as you say, are probably just throwing some financial muscle into it, knowing he could never afford a ruling against him
