well,
I'll try again ;-)
Worthington is younger than those managers for a start. Also, didn't Stringer actually move up and become a director or advisor or somesuchthing?
Worthington is managing in an entirely different era/financial climate/different transfer, youth team rules & all such comparisons are a bit askew.
Worthington is a manager who is proven to be successful at this level with pretty meagre resources (whichever way you cut it we have not invested in the squad to the same degree as quite a number of other teams in this division - that is the board's reponsibility, not the manager) (note - I still think that the board do a good job at managing the debt and am not calling for them to be replaced either). All of the managers cited on here as possible replacements are unproven at this level for any period of time, would result in more disruption to the playing squad and are NO GUARANTEE of success.
Consistency IS important and while there have been difficulties with achieving it with the team this year that has been due to player churn from relegation, injury and working on the budget we have.
I do not feel that Worthington is worse than say, Warnock, as a manager, who is having success at this level this year, sometimes it clicks on the pitch, sometimes it doesn't.
What I find most depressing about all this Worthy Out guff is that it smacks of the "We're better/too big for this division" crud attitude that has rightly been derided by us in Ipswich/Wolves/Leeds/WestHam/SheffieldWednesday fans to name a few over the years.
It's been a poor year, true, but supporters jumping on Worthy's back the moment we have a mediocre season is a sure way to get a reputation as a whinging, cruddy set of fans.
I appreciate that there are a large number of people dissatisfied with the results this year, but, that's sport, every group of fans wants their team to do well all the time. Unless you can buy success (which we can't) then there's always gonna be a chunk of those fans disappointed.
It may be time for worthy to go, but I don't think that time is yet. I'd like him to have a chance to see how this team plays once it's settled next year, rather than sack a proven manager and subject the club to more turmoil.
Just my view.
