Although a related thought - worth trying to remember for the future that our star player leaving seems to have resulted in us being better. (Not that on its own, of course, but you still wonder if there's something in it.)
In US sport they have a name for that happening - can't remember what they call it, but someone else might know? Supposedly lots of examples of it - guess to do with it rebalancing the team, getting more out of everyone else etc...
