They are up there because they have a very expensive and experienced squad, which probably should be doing better than it is the way the league is. Pulis's reputation is based primarily on not getting relegated from the Prem, which you can do with negative football and plenty of draws. Getting promotion (especially automatic promotion) requires wins, and there are already signs that Boro might draw too many games for automatic because of negative safety-first tactics (the way they played here, both this year and last year, is an example)
