I don’t know if the younger fans mentioned have picked up anti-Irish attitudes from parents or other aspects of football culture - the peak of football-related violence was at the time of the Troubles. I also don’t know how true or representative the overall picture can be based on one article but I do know the last time I was at an England game, at the old Wembley, there was a lot of basic racism but it seemed quite historically conflict based; IRA, Germany, crusades etc.
